Rockdale County, GA Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Section 78-14 defines yard trimmings as leaves, brush, grass clippings, shrub and tree prunings, discarded Christmas trees, nursery and greenhouse vegetative residuals, and other landscaping vegetative matter. Subsection (b) then sets three disposal restrictions: trimmings cannot be placed in or mixed with other municipal solid waste; they cannot go to a municipal solid waste disposal facility that has a liner and leachate collection system or requires vertical expansion; and they must be sorted and stored to facilitate collection, composting or other handling, bundled and staked in lengths not exceeding four feet, with only biodegradable containers used if the trimmings are bagged.

Recognizing that not every property owner can compost or chip on-site, subsection (b)(5) allows trimmings to simply be collected and hauled to an approved disposal site instead, so long as the mixing, landfill and bundling restrictions are still met. Trimmings can also be dropped at the county recycling and transfer station under the recycling and transfer operations policy the board of commissioners adopted October 8, 1996; trimmings delivered there personally by the property owner or lessee are exempt from the four-foot bundling limit (§ 78-14(b)(6)). Administration and enforcement fall to the board of commissioners or its designee under § 78-2.
