Parma, OH Tree Protection: Parkway Planting (2026)

22(a) requires the Director of Public Service to designate a Tree Plan before any street is dedicated, assigning a tree to be planted in the tree lawn of each recorded sublot along that street. Once a building permit issues for construction on a sublot, the owner or builder has one year to plant the tree called for in the Tree Plan. Subsection (b) makes it a violation for anyone to plant a tree in a street's tree lawn except according to that Tree Plan, keeping species and placement uniform along the block.

Subsection (c) requires the owner or builder to pay $100 to the City upon issuance of the building permit, deposited into the Tree Fund, Account 2750-133, to cover the cost of the tree, materials and planting labor. Subsection (d), added in 1984, extends that same $100 charge to any homeowner who separately asks the City to plant a tree in their tree lawn, again covering the tree, supporting materials and labor, deposited into the same Tree Fund. 01(n), as the strip of a street not covered by sidewalk or pavement, generally the area between the sidewalk and the curb, and the species and placement the Tree Plan specifies must still meet the arboricultural standards the City Forester enforces under Chapter 913.
