Stonecrest, GA Tree Protection: Parkway Planting (2026)

The rule sits in Stonecrest Code § 14-201, Planting Strips, part of the Land Development chapter's street design standards. The Director of Community Development keeps the approved list of trees permitted in the strip between the curb and the sidewalk, and no other species may be planted there. The same office also sets the specifications for how far apart the trees must be spaced and the calendar timing for planting, so an applicant cannot substitute an off-list species or plant at will. Because planting-strip trees serve the public right-of-way rather than the lot itself, § 14-201 states they cannot be counted toward the separate front-yard tree requirement that applies to residential lots.

They can, however, be credited toward whatever tree density units still remain unmet under the city's broader tree protection ordinance in chapter 14, article VI, as long as the species planted also satisfies the planting-strip list. The provision works alongside § 14-524, which requires street trees and continuous landscape strips along every newly constructed or realigned street in office, commercial and industrial developments, and along new streets in residential developments exceeding three dwelling units per acre. Design specifications for spacing and species selection are set administratively rather than fixed permanently in the code text, giving the Director latitude to update the approved list as conditions change.

Developers submitting a land development or building permit application must coordinate planting-strip species with the current list before installation; using an unlisted tree risks rejection at inspection.
