Bartow County, GA Water Use Rules: Leak Reporting Duty (2026)

Bartow County's water conservation ordinance, Code § 74-58, treats an unrepaired service leak as a serious waste of the county's water supply. Under subsection (g), the county water system responds to a detected leak by leaving a door hanger at the property, and that notice tells the customer the leak must be repaired within 24 hours or the water department may terminate service. 0 gallons per minute, termination is immediate rather than waiting the 24 hours: service is cut off until the leak is repaired and the customer presents satisfactory evidence of the repair to the water department.

Once water is shut off under this provision, it stays off until the customer has paid both any outstanding water bills and the county's separate charge for the cost of cutting off and restoring service. A related duty appears in subsection (h)(1)(c), the county's waste-of-water rule, which lists failing to repair a controllable leak, including a broken sprinkler head, leaking valve, leaking outdoor faucet, service line leak or any other visible outside water leak, within 30 days as a prohibited waste of water, separate from the faster service-leak track in subsection (g).
