Satellite Beach, FL Water Use Rules: Recycled Water Rules (2026)

Satellite Beach's landscape irrigation article, Article IX of Chapter 26, sets a strict day-of-week and time-of-day watering schedule under § 26-153 tied to whether daylight saving or eastern standard time is in effect and whether an address is odd- or even-numbered. Section 26-154 then lists eight exceptions to that schedule, and two cover reclaimed and recycled water. Subsection (7) allows irrigation using water from a reclaimed water system at any time, and defines a reclaimed water system broadly enough to include a system whose primary source is reclaimed water even if supplemented from another source during peak demand.

Subsection (8) separately allows irrigation with recycled water from wet detention treatment ponds at any time, but only if the ponds are not augmented from any ground or off-site surface water, or from a public water supply source; a detention pond topped off from a well or the city's potable system loses the exemption. These reclaimed- and recycled-water exceptions sit alongside other schedule exceptions in § 26-154, including micro-irrigation, drip and bubbler systems (allowed anytime), new landscape establishment for an initial 60-day period, watering-in of chemicals within 24 hours of application, system maintenance testing capped at 20 minutes per zone per hour, and hand-held hoses with automatic shut-off nozzles. Article IX is enforced by the Satellite Beach police department and code enforcement department under § 26-158, with penalties set out in § 26-159.
