Waukesha, WI Accessory Structures: Shed Rules (2026)

The City of Waukesha Department of Community Development - Building Inspection Division administers shed permits at City Hall, 201 Delafield Street, and accepts applications through the eTRAKiT online portal at permits.waukesha-wi.gov. The 2025 Development Fees schedule sets the building permit fee for residential detached garages, accessory buildings and sheds at $0.33 per square foot, and the plan review fee for any accessory building less than 500 square feet is a flat $125 with the plan entry fee waived. Sheds are regulated as accessory structures under Chapter 22 (Zoning) of the Waukesha Municipal Code, which requires accessory structures to be located outside the front yard and street yard and to satisfy the side and rear yard setbacks of the underlying residential district.
