Denver allows beekeeping in certain residential zone districts. Maximum 2 hives per lot under 6,000 sq ft. Hives must be registered with Denver Animal Protection. Outdoor storage of bee equipment is prohibited.
Denver's beekeeping ordinance (DRMC Chapter 8, Article 11) allows residential beekeeping in eligible zone districts. Property owners may keep up to 2 hives on lots under 6,000 square feet; larger lots may allow more. Hive registration with Denver Animal Protection is required. Outdoor storage of bee paraphernalia or hive materials outside of the hive itself is prohibited. A water source should be placed within 20 feet of the hive. Property owners in non-eligible zones may apply for a zoning variance. Beekeeping must be organic β no chemical medications or treatments are permitted in Denver Urban Gardens community garden hives.
Unregistered hives and violations of hive standards subject to code enforcement action.
