Full Breakdown

Section 18-18 allows honeybees under two alternative setback options. Option 1: all hives at least 150 feet from any church, school, or occupied residence (other than the owner's), measured in a straight line, with an on-site water source. Option 2: all hives at least 25 feet from every property line with a solid fence or vegetative barrier at least 6 feet high between the hives and property lines to force a flyover pattern. Beekeepers must ensure bees do not congregate at swimming pools, pet water bowls, or other water sources. It is unlawful to keep any colony that causes unhealthy conditions or interferes with normal use of neighboring property regardless of setback compliance.

Violations & Fines

Violation of beekeeping requirements: fine up to $500 per offense. Nuisance colonies may be ordered removed. Each day of violation is a separate offense.
