Medina, OH Animal Ordinances: Bird Protection (2026)

13 of the Medina Codified Ordinances, in force since Ordinance 85-66 passed July 28, 1966, bars a wide range of conduct against wild birds. No person may kill or injure a wild bird, or throw, fire, or shoot a bullet, stone, arrow, or other missile at one. The section separately bans breaking, tearing down, or destroying a bird's nest or the eggs or other contents of a nest, protecting nesting sites even when the bird itself is not directly harmed. It also prohibits catching or capturing a wild bird, setting traps, or spreading nets or snares with intent to catch or capture one, and bars following or pursuing a wild bird with intent to capture it, closing off both the taking of birds and less direct efforts to corner or exhaust them.

082. Because the section predates the City's later fowl and wildlife rules, it functions as Medina's longest-standing wild-bird protection, distinct from state and federal migratory bird law that also applies within the city.
