Boise does not have breed-specific legislation. No pit bull, rottweiler, or other breed bans apply. All dogs are regulated under dangerous-dog provisions based on behavior, not breed, under BCC Title 5, Chapter 1.
Boise regulates dangerous dogs by individual behavior rather than breed under BCC 5-1-16. A dog may be declared dangerous after an unprovoked bite, attack on another animal, or aggressive threatening behavior. Idaho has no statewide breed preemption, meaning cities may adopt BSL, but Boise has consistently rejected breed bans and instead focuses on owner responsibility. Dangerous dog designations require secure enclosure (6-foot fence with top, locked gate), 250,000 dollar liability insurance, muzzle and short leash in public, and posted warning signs. Microchipping of dangerous dogs is mandatory.
