Lewisville, TX Animal Ordinances: Breed Restrictions (2026)

Lewisville does not ban or restrict any specific dog breeds. The city follows a behavior-based approach to dangerous dog regulation consistent with TX Health and Safety Code Ch. 822 Subchapter D (Dangerous Dogs). A dog of any breed may be declared dangerous if it makes an unprovoked attack on a person that causes bodily injury, or commits unprovoked acts in a place other than the owner's property that cause a reasonable person to believe the dog will attack and cause bodily injury. Owners of dogs declared dangerous must register the dangerous dog with Lewisville Animal Services, maintain liability insurance of at least $100,000, restrain the dog in a secure enclosure, and comply with all conditions imposed by the municipal court or animal services.

TX Health and Safety Code Ch. 822 Subchapter A addresses dogs that are a danger to persons, while Subchapter D specifically covers the dangerous dog designation process. Lewisville requires all dogs to be vaccinated against rabies and licensed through the city.
