Lewisville Code Ch. 6, Art. II requires dogs to be restrained by leash, chain, or other tether when off the owner's premises. Running at large is prohibited citywide. Animal Services enforces with impoundment and escalating fines up to $500 per offense.
Under Lewisville Code of Ordinances Chapter 6 (Animals), Article II, it is unlawful for any dog to run at large within the city limits. A dog is considered at large when it is off the premises of the owner and not under restraint by a leash, chain, rope, or other tether held by a person capable of controlling the animal. The ordinance applies on all public property including streets, sidewalks, parks, and trails around Lewisville Lake. Dogs in city parks must remain leashed except in any designated off-leash area. Animal Services officers patrol and respond to complaints. Impounded dogs are held at the Denton County Animal Shelter. Owners must provide proof of current rabies vaccination (required under TX Health and Safety Code Ch. 826) to reclaim. Reclaim fees include daily boarding charges. Repeated at-large violations may result in the animal being declared a public nuisance under Chapter 6, requiring additional containment measures such as secure fencing. Lewisville Animal Services can be reached at (972) 219-3474.
Fine up to $500 per offense. Impoundment fees and daily boarding charges apply. Repeated offenses may trigger nuisance animal declaration with mandatory secure containment.
