Gardena Zoning Code Section 18.42.020 allows only domesticated dogs, cats, and adult fowl (including doves and pigeons) to be kept, with a hard cap of three total animals per lot. Roosters and other noise-making fowl are barred by the nuisance chapter, and enclosures must meet setbacks.
Gardena Municipal Code Section 18.42.020 (Keeping of animals) makes it unlawful to keep any animal other than domesticated dogs, cats, and adult fowl, including doves and pigeons. A maximum of three weaned dogs, three weaned cats, or three adult fowl, or any combination totaling three, is permitted per lot in any zone. Permitted adult fowl must be kept in a rear-yard enclosure at least five feet from rear and side property lines, and at least twenty-five feet from any school, church, public building, hospital, group care facility, or residence not on the property. Keeping unlisted animals, or exceeding three, requires a conditional use permit under Chapter 18.46. Chapter 6.16 also bars any rooster or fowl whose crow disturbs the neighborhood.
Keeping fowl beyond the three-animal cap, without a conditional use permit, or in a non-conforming enclosure violates Section 18.42.020. Roosters or noisy fowl violate Chapter 6.16. Penalties follow Chapter 1.16, including correction orders and citations.
