Chickens, rabbits, goats, pigeons, ducks, geese, turkeys, and other fowl are prohibited in certain 'Imperial' districts. A valid permit is required from the city to keep livestock elsewhere. Violations are infractions.
Under IMC Β§4-46, it is illegal to raise or keep chickens, rabbits, goats, pigeons, ducks, geese, turkeys, or fowl (other than household pets) in certain named districts (Imperial Village, Morningside Park, Lockhaven per Ordinance No. 1800). Such animals are not permitted in any other area without a permit. To keep these animals, you must file an application for a permit before housing them on your property. The permit process ensures animals are kept in a sanitary and humane manner. Applications are obtained from the City Finance Department. Livestock on public streets (horses, livestock, other animals) must be confined in a truck or trailer per the IMC.
Keeping chickens, livestock, or fowl without a permit is illegal per IMC Β§4-46. Code enforcement citations may be issued.
