Goodyear allows up to 6 hens on single-family detached lots of half acre or less. The enclosure must be 20 feet from neighboring properties, maximum 200 sq ft, and no taller than the property fence. Roosters are prohibited. Larger lots have more allowances under Section 7-1-4.
Goodyear adopted a backyard chicken ordinance allowing residents of single-family detached residences on lots of half acre or less to keep up to 6 hens. The chicken enclosure must be at least 20 feet from neighboring properties, cannot exceed 200 square feet, and cannot be taller than 8 feet or the property fence height (most fences are 5-6 feet). Roosters are not allowed. The enclosure must be in the backyard. For lots over half an acre, additional allowances apply. Under Section 7-1-4, it is generally unlawful to keep horses, mules, cattle, goats, sheep, swine, or poultry within city limits unless permitted by the code. No more than 4 household pets are allowed per property. Swine are prohibited citywide.
Keeping animals in violation of the code may result in citations and orders to remove prohibited animals.
