Division E.9. sets the backyard fowl standards for single-family detached residences only; an accessory dwelling unit on the same lot does not get its own fowl allowance under division a., and the cap citywide is six birds per qualifying lot. Division b. bars any male fowl, roosters included, from being kept at all, a flat prohibition rather than a noise-based standard. Division c. controls where and how the enclosure sits: it must be in the rear or side yard, at least 20 feet from a neighboring property line, no larger than 200 square feet, and roofed.

Height is tied to the property's perimeter fence, typically 6 feet, or up to 8 feet inside the buildable area with an approved building permit, but the enclosure itself can never exceed 8 feet under any circumstance. The perimeter fence enclosing the yard has to be at least 80% opaque and screen the coop from neighboring properties. Division d. requires manure to be picked up and disposed of, or composted, at least twice a week, with composted manure stored so it does not draw insects; division e. requires adequate drainage for any water source, and division f. requires feed to be kept in insect- and rodent-proof containers. Division g. flatly prohibits fowl from running at large, meaning birds cannot roam loose off the owner's property or outside the required enclosure.
