Plantation prohibits any dog from being at large. Off your own property a dog must be on a leash, cord, chain or other physical restraint, and a loose dog can be seized, impounded and its owner cited.
At large means off the premises of the owner and not under the control, custody, charge or possession of the owner or other responsible persons to whom custody, control, charge or possession of an animal, either by leash, cord, chain, or other physical barrier, fence, cage, full or partial enclosure sufficient to contain the animal, has been delegated.

Sec. 4-2 makes it a violation to permit any dog to be at large, and Sec. 4-1 defines at large as off the owner's premises and not under the control of a responsible person by leash, cord, chain, physical barrier, fence, cage or enclosure sufficient to contain the animal. You also may not tether a dog so it can reach public property or a neighbour's land without permission. An officer who finds a dog at large may seize and impound it, issue a citation, or both. Under Sec. 4-7 every dog or cat four months or older must be licensed through Broward County, and the tag must be worn off-premises.
Violations & Fines
Animal chapter violations are civil infractions. Uncontested penalties are $50 for a first offence, $100 second, $200 third and $400 for the fourth and beyond, plus the city's transportation, impoundment and treatment costs.
