Full Breakdown

Under Sunrise Code Sec. 4-26, a dog on public streets, in any public place, or on another person's property must be held on a securely fastened leash no longer than 6 feet, or otherwise under the owner's immediate physical control. Owners must carry a means to remove dog waste on rights-of-way, parks, and others' property. Section 4-4 bars dogs from city parks, with an exception for Welleby Park: dogs are allowed on a non-retractable 6-foot leash with a current rabies tag, and off-leash inside the designated dog-park area. A dog running at large may be impounded by city police or Broward County Animal Care (Sec. 4-27). Rabies vaccination is required under Fla. Stat. §828.30, with county-wide licensing by Broward County.

Violations & Fines

Off-leash or at-large dogs may be impounded, with impound fees plus a Code Enforcement citation. Failure to remove waste and unvaccinated dogs draw additional fines through the special magistrate.
