Sunrise Code Sec. 4-2 bans any animal with vicious or dangerous propensities and allows other non-dog, non-cat species only if caged to prevent escape. Florida's FWC also permits captive wildlife statewide.
Sunrise strictly limits exotic and wild animals. Code Sec. 4-2 prohibits any animal, wild or domestic, that has vicious or dangerous propensities, and allows other species besides dogs and cats only when kept in a cage built to prevent escape. That bars big cats, primates, venomous reptiles, and similar dangerous animals outright. On top of the city rule, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) regulates captive wildlife under Fla. Stat. Ch. 379, classing species as Class I, II, or III and requiring permits, caging standards, and experience for the animals it allows. Escaped exotic animals are treated as a public-safety emergency, and owners are liable for any resulting harm.
Dangerous or improperly caged animals are removed under Sec. 4-2 through Code Enforcement. FWC captive-wildlife violations under Fla. Stat. Ch. 379 carry state fines and criminal charges, and owners answer for damage from escaped animals.
