Exotic animals β non-domesticated, non-native, or wild/predatory species β require an Exotic Animal Permit from the City of Colorado Springs. Permit applications are made through the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.
City Code Β§6.7.111β6.7.114 defines exotic animals as those not commonly domesticated in the US, not native to North America, or of a wild/predatory nature. It is unlawful to own or keep an exotic animal without a valid Exotic Animal Permit. Applications with required fees must be submitted to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR). Permit renewal is annual. Federal and state wildlife laws (including the Colorado Wildlife Act, C.R.S. Β§33-6-107) also regulate possession of certain species. Big cats, primates, venomous reptiles, and similar animals are heavily restricted under multiple layers of law.
Unlawful possession is a criminal offense under city code; penalties include confiscation of the animal.
