5 (Residential Code), Part 4 (Mechanical Code), Part 6 (Energy Code), Part 8 (Historical Building Code), Part 10 (Existing Building Code) and Part 11 (Green Building Standards Code). The Building Code adoption carries specific appendices: Appendix I (Patio Covers), Appendix J (Grading), Appendix L (Earthquake Recording Instrumentation), Appendix P (Sleeping Lofts) and Appendix Q (Emergency Housing). The Residential Code adoption likewise carries Appendix BF (Patio Covers), Appendix BJ (Strawbale Construction), Appendix CI (Swimming Pool Safety Act) and Appendix CJ (Emergency Housing), and the Existing Building Code carries Appendix A for seismic retrofit of existing buildings.

A copy of the full code is kept on file at the Brentwood community development department for public examination, and permit fees are set by resolution of the city council rather than printed in the ordinance itself. The chapter has been amended repeatedly to keep pace with each triennial code cycle: Ordinance 931 Section 3 (2014), Ordinance 979 Section 2 (2016), Ordinance 1011 Section 2 (2019), Ordinance 1049 Section 2 (2022) and most recently Ordinance 1090, adopted December 9, 2025, to bring the city onto the 2025 edition.
