Brentwood, CA Building Safety: Green Building Code (2026)

5 (Residential Code), Part 6 (Energy Code), and Part 11, the California Green Building Standards Code, commonly called CALGreen. Because Brentwood adopts CALGreen without carving out a weaker local standard, every applicable new construction, addition and renovation permit in the city must meet the statewide green building mandates on construction waste diversion, water efficiency, and building commissioning that Part 11 sets. A copy of the full Building Standards Code, including the green building volume, is kept on file at the community development department for public review under subsection B.

Fees for permits reviewed against these standards, including green building plan check, are set by city council resolution under subsection C, and the city enforces the chapter, including its green building provisions, through any remedy available under the state Building Standards Codes or under Title 1 of the Brentwood Municipal Code, the city's general penalty and enforcement provisions, per subsection D. The city separately amends specific plumbing code sections in this same chapter, such as prohibiting underground metallic gas piping without a soils analysis, showing the city does actively tailor parts of the 2025 code rather than adopting it as pure boilerplate.
