Lee's Summit's Security Code (Sec. " Under Sec. 7-1401 it applies to all new residential dwelling units and new multi-dwelling structures, plus additions or alterations that require a building permit and touch a covered component such as a door, window or light. Sec. 7-1402 makes the standards additive to the City's Building, Fire, Electrical and Residential Codes, not a replacement for them. The core lock rule, Sec. 4, requires every exterior door to carry a single-cylinder deadbolt with at least a one-inch projection that penetrates three-fourths of an inch into the strike, a twist-resistant tapered hardened steel cylinder guard, a minimum of five pin tumblers, and connecting screws at least one-fourth inch in diameter; the full assembly must meet ANSI Grade 2 specifications.

Companion sections back up the deadbolt: Sec. 1 requires exterior hinges to use three-inch wood screws penetrating at least one inch into the wall structure, with out-swinging doors needing a mechanical interlock to prevent the door being lifted off its hinges from outside. Sec. 2 requires strike plates of at least 18-gauge metal with four offset screw holes, secured with three-inch wood screws. Sec. 5 requires front and main entry doors to give the occupant a view of the area outside without opening the door, via a viewer with at least a 180-degree field of view, a window, or a viewport.

Sec. 7-1410 separately requires exterior windows (other than storm windows) to be lockable and openable from inside without keys or tools, with sliding assemblies shimmed or screwed in the upper track to resist removal. Screen or storm doors and interior common-area doors in multifamily buildings are exempt under Sec. 7-1408. The article took effect April 1, 2019 under Ordinance No. 8584.
