" A copy is on file at the Building and Safety Division and the Office of the City Clerk. Permitting for electrical work runs through the general permit section, Sec. 050(a), which requires an owner or agent to obtain a permit before installing, enlarging, altering, repairing or replacing any electrical system regulated by the codes. The same section exempts specific minor electrical jobs from a permit, including listed cord-and-plug temporary decorative lighting, reinstalling attachment plug receptacles without touching the outlet, replacing a branch-circuit overcurrent device of the same capacity in the same location, wiring or equipment operating under 25 volts and 50 watts, minor lamp replacement or connecting portable equipment to an approved receptacle, and work under the exclusive control of an electric utility on its own equipment, easements or rights-of-way.

Applications go to the Building Official, who reviews construction documents under Sec. 070 and issues the permit once satisfied the work meets the adopted Electrical Code, followed by rough and final electrical inspections under Sec. 110(c)(5) and (12) before the circuit can be energized and a certificate of occupancy issued.
