Eastvale, CA Building Safety: Fire Sprinkler Requirements (2026)

Sec. 2 of the 2025 California Fire Code, adopted by Sec. " That local amendment goes further than the unmodified state Fire Code, which allows some smaller residential exemptions; Eastvale's version applies without a size threshold to every detached one- and two-family home. The same amended section requires sprinklers in any new building of 3,600 square feet or more "regardless of occupancy classification," and requires existing buildings over 3,600 square feet to retrofit sprinklers when remodeled with a change of use, removal of a fire wall, or an addition of 50% or more that pushes the building past 5,000 square feet.

Detached accessory buildings of 3,600 square feet or greater must also sprinkler under Sec. 5, which applies the fire code's sprinkler rule to accessory structures built under the Residential Code. Narrow exceptions exist for telecommunications equipment spaces with automatic smoke detection, detached agricultural Group U buildings, open equestrian arena canopies, small non-combustible fueling canopies, and open shade structures over playgrounds or storage, plus a Fire Chief exemption where no major life-safety hazard or fuel-load threat exists.
