Medford, OR Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

250 adopts "the current version of the Oregon Electrical Specialty Code as published by the National Fire Protection Association and as modified by the Director of the State Department of Business and Consumer Services" as Medford's Electrical Code, with the Building Safety Director acting as the "Administrator" or "department" referenced in the code text. 251 then sets Medford-specific permit rules: an issued Electrical Permit "shall expire after 180 days of inactivity on the work for which the electrical permit is issued," after which a new permit may be required to resume work.

540 allows, and subsection (2) adds an investigative fee, on top of the regular permit fee, for anyone who knowingly does electrical work without first obtaining a permit. 250(3) gives the Building Safety Director direct disconnection authority over any electrical installation connected in violation of the code or before approval for service has been given, requiring the Director to post a notice at the premises stating the wiring was disconnected for noncompliance, and it is unlawful to reconnect afterward without authorization. 251(4).
