Taylorsville, UT Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Section 15.08.010 of Taylorsville City Code adopts by reference the edition of the National Electric Code, alongside the International Building Code, as currently adopted by the State of Utah, as the construction standard applied to building construction, alteration, remodeling, and repair, and to the regulation of that construction citywide. Because the ordinance ties the electrical standard to whatever edition the state has adopted rather than printing a fixed date, Taylorsville's electrical requirements update automatically each time Utah adopts a new NEC cycle, without the city having to pass a separate ordinance amendment of its own.

The adoption itself dates to Ordinance 10-29, passed October 6, 2010, and remains the operative text notwithstanding later amendments elsewhere in Title 15. Community Development's building official administers electrical permit review and inspection alongside the rest of the adopted building code, so an electrician or homeowner doing wiring work applies through the same permit office that handles general building permits rather than a separate electrical board. Because Title 15 folds electrical work into the same adoption ordinance and the same permitting office as the rest of the building code, Taylorsville has no separate electrical board, licensing scheme, or electrical-specific appeal process apart from the general building permit process the building official runs, and any dispute over an electrical permit denial follows that same building official review rather than a dedicated electrical appeals path.
