Toms River Township does not mandate residential fire sprinklers through a stand-alone ordinance; instead, Chapter 252, Construction Codes, Uniform, sets the permit fees that apply when sprinklers are installed under the state Fire Subcode. Section 252-6E(1) covers Use Groups R-3 and R-5 only, meaning one- and two-family dwellings and their like, and sets a minimum Fire Subcode plan review fee of $85. Within that, § 252-6E(1)(b) prices smoke detector and fire sprinkler installations by head count: $85 for the first 20 heads, with $50 added for each additional 20 heads beyond that.
