Madera, CA Building Safety: Green Building Code (2026)

Madera Municipal Code § 9-1.11 adopts the 2022 California Green Building Standards Code, known as CALGreen, promulgated by the California Building Standards Commission, for the purpose of regulating both residential and non-residential buildings in the city. Like the city's other Title IX code adoptions, CALGreen is adopted by reference as if fully set forth in the chapter, and any future changes the Building Standards Commission makes applicable to the city, including new editions, are deemed automatically incorporated without a separate city ordinance. Where CALGreen conflicts with another city, state or federal code, § 9-1.11 directs the Building Official to apply whichever code provides the highest level of safety.

This section sits at the end of Chapter 1's series of code adoptions in Title IX, following the Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, Fire, Residential and Energy codes, all adopted the same way and all made effective by Ordinance 999 C.S., passed May 3, 2023. Because CALGreen is applied through this same adoption mechanism, projects permitted in Madera must meet its mandatory measures on-site, on the same permit, plan review and inspection track administered by the Department of Building and Safety under § 9-1.01.
