Boone County, IN Building Safety: Building Inspections (2026)

Boone County Code § 151.27 directs the Building Inspector, after a permit is issued, to make or cause to be made the inspections necessary to confirm full compliance with the building subchapter and the terms of the permit; if work is found incomplete or not ready for inspection, the county may reinspect and charge the permit holder a reinspection fee of up to $10. Section 151.29 gives the Building Inspector authority to halt any work being done contrary to the code by serving written notice on the people doing or causing the work, who must stop immediately until the Inspector authorizes them to proceed.

Section 151.30 backs that inspection authority with a right of entry: upon presenting proper credentials, the Inspector or an authorized representative may enter, at reasonable times, any building, structure or premises within the Area Plan Commission's jurisdiction to carry out duties under the subchapter, and if a permit holder refuses to allow the inspection, the Executive Director of the Area Plan Commission must pursue the enforcement remedies set out in § 151.99. All work inspected must meet the good and workmanlike standard set in § 151.31, and a certificate of occupancy under § 151.28 cannot issue until a final inspection confirms the completed structure complies.
