Fontana, CA Building Safety: Plumbing Permits (2026)

Fontana Municipal Code Sec. 5-86 adopts the 2025 Edition of the California Plumbing Code, based on the 2024 Uniform Plumbing Code published by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, including Appendices A, B, D, H, I and K, as the city's plumbing code, with a copy on file in the city clerk's office. Sec. 5-87 states the city adopts that edition with no amendments, unlike the building, property maintenance and fire codes in the same chapter, which all carry Fontana-specific rewrites. Because Article IV sits inside the same Chapter 5 that Sec.

5-11 governs, a plumbing permit not tied to another construction project, a standalone water heater swap, repipe, or fixture replacement, falls under the six-month completion window set for 'plumbing, mechanical, electrical and solar' work; permits bundled into a larger remodel or new-construction project instead run on that project's own 6, 12 or 24-month window. An owner who needs more time can request a single 180-day extension from the building official under Sec. 5-11 by showing the delay was beyond their control and the site remains safe; no plumbing permit can be extended twice.

Sec. 5-5 makes interfering with plumbing inspections, or plumbing work in violation of the adopted code, a misdemeanor, punishable under the citywide Sec. 1-7 general penalty.
