Las Vegas, NV Building Safety: Plumbing Permits (2026)

Chapter 16.28, the Plumbing Code chapter, consists of a single operative section, LVMC 16.28.010, which adopts by reference two documents rather than printing plumbing standards directly into the Municipal Code: the Uniform Plumbing Code, 2024 Edition, including its Standards and Appendices (Part 1 of the Chapter), and the 'Southern Nevada Amendments to the 2024 Uniform Plumbing Code, CLV Amended' (Part 2), which adds to, deletes from and amends the base code with provisions specific to the City of Las Vegas. Copies of both documents are kept on file in the Office of the City Clerk. The current edition was adopted by Ordinance No. 6916, § 1, on July 16, 2025, but an editor's note fixes its effective date as January 5, 2026, so the prior code edition governs permits issued before that date. Earlier editions trace back through a long amendment history, including Ordinance No. 6638 (2018), Ordinance No. 6355 (2014), Ordinance No. 6141 (2011), and versions dating to the City's original 1983 codification.

Chapter 16.28 has no permitting or enforcement section of its own; administration runs through the Building Code chapter next door. LVMC 16.04.020 designates the Director of the Department of Community Development, or an authorized representative, as the Building Official who administers the City's construction codes, including the adopted Plumbing Code, and LVMC 16.04.030 designates the City Council as the Board of Appeals for disputes arising under those codes. Because Chapter 16.28 also has no violations section of its own, a plumbing code violation, including work performed without a required permit or contrary to the adopted Uniform Plumbing Code standards, falls back on the Municipal Code's general penalty in LVMC 1.24.010.
