Macon-Bibb County, GA Building Safety: Plumbing Permits (2026)

Chapter 6 of the Macon-Bibb County Code of Ordinances places plumbing permitting and inspection under the Chief Building Official within the Department of Business Development Services. § 8-2-20 and Ga. Comp. & Regs. 110-11-1, include the state plumbing code, so Macon-Bibb permits and inspects plumbing work to whatever edition the Department of Community Affairs currently has in force rather than a county-specific plumbing chapter. " Georgia law otherwise lets licensed master plumbers self-certify certain water and sewer installations without a municipal inspector; Macon-Bibb has switched that option off, meaning every permitted water or sewer project in the county still requires a Business Development Services inspection before it can be closed out or covered.

Section 6-1(c) directs the department to follow the 2014 "Administrative Procedures for the Enforcement of the Georgia State Minimum Standard Codes" when scheduling those inspections, and § 6-5 bars the department from issuing or renewing any building permit, inspection report, or certificate of occupancy, plumbing included, unless the applicant first holds a certificate of good standing under Chapter 26. Copies of the adopted technical codes and administrative procedures are kept on file at the department's office for public review under § 6-2(f).
