Lyon County, NV Business Licensing & Operations: Auto Repair on Residential Property (2026)

Home occupations (HO) and home based businesses (HBB) are allowed within residential neighborhoods and agricultural areas in unincorporated Lyon County, Nevada under Lyon County Code § 15.231.01, but only if they meet the performance requirements in title 15, chapter 335, and every operator must file for a permit alongside a business license application under § 15.231.02(A). Mobile businesses get extra conditions under § 15.231.03: automotive-related services are limited to cleaning, detailing, and minor replacement or repair of glass or accessory parts, and a mobile business operating under a home occupation permit is barred from auto repair, auto body work or engine work except on an emergency roadside repair basis.

Work under a mobile HBB permit also cannot occur in a publicly accessible parking lot, though employee-restricted lots are allowed, or on any county-owned property, including parks, parking lots or rights-of-way, per § 15.231.03(C)-(D). The Director may periodically review an HO/HBB permit for compliance and can set a public hearing if there is sufficient evidence of a problem under § 15.231.04. If the Director finds a permit holder out of compliance and correction efforts fail, the operator gets certified-mail notice of a Planning Commission hearing; the Commission can find the business compliant, impose new conditions to mitigate impacts, or revoke the permit and order the business to cease and desist under § 15.231.05.
