Lyon County, NV Noise Ordinances: Amplified Music & Outdoor Sound (2026)

Section 14.04.08 of the Lyon County Code, in the County Parks title's conduct chapter, targets amplified and reproduced sound specifically: it reaches noise, sound, music or a program emitted outdoors from a radio, tape player, tape recorder, record player, public address system, CD player, television or similar device in or on any county park. The rule is written to apply notwithstanding any other provision of the code and in addition to it, meaning it stacks on top of the general disturbing-the-peace rule in section 14.04.09, which separately bars operating any electrically or gasoline powered device in a way that disturbs the peace of the park unless the director permits it.

The amplified-sound trigger is objective rather than a decibel meter reading: a device is in violation once its output is plainly audible at a distance of one hundred feet. That 100-foot threshold applies uniformly across the county park system, from Fernley-area parks like Out of Town Park to Yerington-area and Dayton-area facilities, and it is the director, under Lyon County Community Development and Parks and Recreation, who posts rules and can grant exceptions for permitted special events under chapter 6. Because section 14.08.01 declares any violation of Title 14 a misdemeanor, a plainly-audible-at-100-feet amplified sound violation carries the same criminal exposure as other park conduct offenses such as littering or disorderly assembly, rather than a simple administrative citation.
