Lyon County, NV Animal Ordinances: Veterinary Clinic Zoning (2026)

Lyon County Code § 15.335.03(Y) groups veterinary hospitals and clinics with commercial and breeder kennels under one performance-standards section, 'Kennels - Breeder's And Commercial And Veterinary Hospital/Clinics.' Any part of the facility that is not wholly enclosed inside a building, such as an outdoor run or boarding yard, must be enclosed by a security fence at least six feet high. Animal odors cannot be detectable beyond the property's lot lines, and dust or drainage from the enclosure cannot create a nuisance or hazard for neighboring property or uses.

Incidental grooming for boarded animals is allowed only if performed indoors. The section separately requires every kennel or veterinary facility to comply with Title 7 of the Lyon County Code, which is incorporated by reference. Siting distances are strict: buildings, animal enclosures or fenced areas must sit at least 300 feet from the parcel boundary of any residentially zoned or used property, counting adjacent parcels and parcels across a street right-of-way, and the whole use must be separated by 1,000 feet from the nearest property line of an educational institution or place of worship.

Animals boarded outside or partially outside are capped at ten over six months of age, though animals boarded entirely indoors don't count toward that limit. The facility also has to meet Chapter 402's buffer standards and screen its dumpsters and outdoor storage from adjacent properties and rights-of-way.
