Lyon County, NV Animal Ordinances: Pet Groomer Rules (2026)

Lyon County Code section 7.01.04(B) covers any business involving the keeping of an animal for grooming, breeding, medical treatment, care for hire, or sale, and requires that business to secure a license from Lyon County before opening in unincorporated Lyon County, Nevada, covering Dayton, Silver Springs, Stagecoach, Mound House and Smith Valley. The license application is decided by the animal services supervisor, who can approve, deny or revoke it, and the section also cross-references title 5 of the county code for general business-license procedures. Because the grooming operation is a business, it stays subject to Lyon County's planning and zoning regulations at all times, on top of the animal services license itself.

Once granted, the license must be renewed annually, and holding it exempts the groomer from having to obtain the other individual-animal permits set out elsewhere in chapter 7.01, such as the multiple-canine keeping permit. The Lyon County Sheriff's Office and Lyon County Animal Services share enforcement of chapter 7.01. Section 7.01.10 makes violation of any section of the chapter a misdemeanor, so a grooming business that operates without first securing the license, or that lets the license lapse without renewal, is exposed to a misdemeanor charge in addition to being unable to legally operate.

The Board of County Commissioners sets license fees by resolution rather than fixing them in the code text itself, so groomers should confirm the current fee schedule with the animal services division before applying.
