Full Breakdown

Under Section 11-11.2, no massage, bodywork or somatic therapy business may open in Edison Township without a Health Department permit, which costs five thousand dollars a year, or five hundred dollars if massage is only a peripheral service, as at a salon, and requires a criminal background check, three character references, and inspection by the Health, Fire, Police and Planning departments. Every therapist must also hold a New Jersey Board of Nursing certification. Establishments cannot locate within 1,000 feet of a school, place of worship or residential zone, or within 500 feet of another such establishment, and doors may not be locked while a client and employee are present.
