Lehi, UT Business Licensing & Operations: Towing Companies (2026)

Lehi City Code § 4-7-2.A makes it unlawful for any person, tow truck motor carrier, or business located in Lehi to run a towing or parking enforcement operation, including booting vehicles without consent, inside the corporate limits without a Lehi City business license. A tow company already licensed by another Utah county or municipality is exempt from the Lehi license itself but must still file its name, address, current fee schedule, driver roster, vehicle descriptions, and proof of its surety bond and insurance with the Lehi City business license office, updating that file within 10 business days of any change (§ 4-7-2.B).

A business seeking the full Lehi license must additionally supply Utah Department of Transportation driver certification cards and carrier certificates, disclose any felony or misdemeanor convictions of its drivers, post a $1,000.00 surety bond, carry $25,000.00 in property damage liability insurance, and prove its impound yard sits within Lehi and complies with Lehi City Development Code 12.1.40(g) (§ 4-7-3.A). Every driver must personally carry a valid Utah driver's license, DOT certification card where required, evidence of the business license, and a company ID card (§ 4-7-6).

The police department reviews every application and may run background checks; a conviction involving moral turpitude, theft, narcotics or property damage bars licensing for five years, and a felony bars it for ten, unless that time has passed (§ 4-7-7.C). A denied applicant can appeal under § 4-1-6.
