St. Peters, MO Business Licensing & Operations: Towing Companies (2026)

Section 605.570 makes it unlawful to operate a tow truck in St. Peters unless the operator first obtains a license from the City Clerk, affixed to the lower left corner of the truck's windshield. A tow truck based outside the City is exempt if it already carries a valid license from a County or City whose towing ordinance is similar in context to St. Peters' Article VIII, for the current license year. Section 605.575 requires the application to list the applicant's name, address, date and place of birth, and Missouri operator's license number, or, for a corporation or other organization, its officers and principal place of business; the applicant must also describe every truck by serial and motor number and provide a copy of a current license issued under Chapter 608 of the St.

Charles County ordinances. Section 605.605 requires each tow truck to display, on both sides, the licensee's name and address and the assigned license number in letters at least two inches high, plus the phrase "request schedule of prices." Section 605.610 requires the owner to file a written schedule of towing and storage prices with the Chief of Police in triplicate, present that schedule to the customer before towing for signature authorizing the tow, and charge no more than the filed schedule allows. Section 605.600 bars transferring a license between owners, though an owner may move a truck's license to a replacement truck with the Chief of Police's written approval.
