Full Breakdown

Turlock Municipal Code § 5-21-103(e) sets a flat 600-foot buffer between any cannabis business and a school, day care center, or youth facility, applying the state's Health and Safety Code definition and licensing standard for day care centers. The buffer layers on top of the district-specific zoning rules in § 9-2-703: a parcel must be both an eligible commercial or industrial district and outside the 600-foot buffer before a cannabis business can even apply for the required development agreement, conditional use permit, and business license.

Violations & Fines

Locating or operating a cannabis business within 600 feet of a school, day care center or youth facility violates § 5-21-103(e) and is grounds for permit denial, civil injunction, and administrative penalties up to $2,000.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far must a Turlock cannabis business be from a school?
At least 600 feet, per TMC § 5-21-103(e), which also covers licensed day care centers and youth facilities, not just K-12 schools.
Does the buffer apply on top of zoning district rules?
Yes: the 600-foot buffer in § 5-21-103(e) applies in addition to the district limits in § 9-2-703; a site must clear both.
