Galt prohibits all commercial cannabis business activities including dispensaries, delivery, manufacturing, testing, and distribution. State-licensed delivery to Galt residents from outside dispensaries remains available per state law.
Under the local control provisions of California Proposition 64 and MAUCRSA (Business and Professions Code section 26200), cities may ban commercial cannabis. The City of Galt has exercised this authority to prohibit all commercial cannabis business activity within city limits. Galt Municipal Code bans storefront dispensaries, non-storefront delivery businesses based in Galt, cultivation for commercial purposes, manufacturing, testing laboratories, and distribution. There is no process in Galt to apply for a commercial cannabis permit. Personal-use cultivation under Proposition 64 (up to 6 plants indoors) is allowed separately. State-licensed delivery from dispensaries in other cities is permitted under Business and Professions Code section 26090(e) (the state override of local delivery bans, upheld in 2021 state court decisions), meaning Galt residents can receive legal deliveries even though Galt bans local dispensaries.
Operation of an unlicensed commercial cannabis business is a misdemeanor and subject to abatement. Administrative fines can exceed 1,000 dollars per day of violation.
