Galt allows leaf blowers during standard daytime hours but California AB 1346 has banned the sale of new gas-powered leaf blowers since January 1, 2024. Battery-electric models remain legal and are subject only to quiet hours restrictions.
The City of Galt does not currently have a leaf-blower-specific ban. Use is regulated under general noise ordinance hours (roughly 7 AM to 7 PM), meaning landscapers and homeowners can operate blowers during the day but not during nighttime quiet hours starting at 10 PM. California AB 1346 (2021), implemented by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), prohibits the sale of new gas-powered small off-road engines (SORE) including leaf blowers and lawn mowers beginning January 1, 2024. Existing gas blowers already in service may continue to be used, but replacements must be zero-emission (battery or corded electric). SMAQMD, the regional air district covering Sacramento County including Galt, offers periodic rebate programs to help residents and small landscaping businesses switch to electric blowers. Blowers of any type must not be used in a way that creates dust nuisance drifting onto neighboring properties or public rights-of-way, and debris blown into streets or storm drains can violate stormwater rules under Galt's NPDES MS4 permit.
