Galt allows recreational vehicle and boat storage on private residential property subject to zoning setback rules. RVs must generally be parked on a paved surface behind the front yard setback or in a side yard screened from public view, with no occupancy while stored.
Galt zoning regulations treat recreational vehicles, travel trailers, boats, and utility trailers as accessory uses permitted on residentially zoned lots. Storage in the front yard setback is restricted, and most parcels require RVs to be placed in the side yard or rear yard, on a paved or approved all-weather surface, and screened from the street where feasible. Occupancy of a parked RV as a dwelling is not permitted outside an approved RV park such as Meadowview Estates. On-street RV parking falls under CVC Section 22507 and the statewide 72-hour rule, meaning an RV parked on a Galt street must move to a new location every three days. Oversized vehicles longer than 22 feet or wider than 84 inches that park on residential streets overnight can draw complaints under CVC 22507.5 oversized vehicle restrictions, though Galt has not adopted a blanket oversized vehicle ordinance. Boats on trailers are treated like any other trailer and must either be stored off street or rotated under the 72-hour rule.
RV occupancy outside an approved park is a zoning violation typically subject to a correction notice and fines up to 500 dollars per day if unresolved. On-street violations trigger towing under CVC 22651(k).
