Under California Proposition 64 (Adult Use of Marijuana Act), adults 21 and older in Huntington Beach may cultivate up to 6 mature plants indoors for personal use. For medical purposes, patients may cultivate up to 6 mature and 12 immature plants indoors. Indoor grow lights shall not exceed 1,200 watts per light and must comply with California Building, Electrical, and Fire Codes as adopted by the City. Outdoor cultivation of cannabis is not permitted within city limits. Plants must not be visible from public areas. Cultivation may not create odor, light, or noise nuisances detectable from outside the residence.
Growing more than 6 plants or cultivating outdoors may result in criminal charges and code enforcement. Creating a nuisance through cultivation is enforceable under HBMC Chapter 17.10.
