Conway, AR Code Violation Reporting: Response Times (2026)

Conway Municipal Code Section 5.09.18 sets out the timeline that governs every code-enforcement notice issued under Chapter 5.09, from uncut grass to nuisance debris to unsafe structures. Once a city official identifies a violation and serves a written Notice of Violation, the property owner does not get a vague reasonable time to comply: the code spells out the calculation to the hour. The clock starts the day after the notice is given, every calendar day counts including weekends and holidays, and the deadline to correct the condition falls at 11:59 p.m. on the seventh day.

If the owner has neither remedied the violation nor complied by that moment, the city is authorized to enter the property and do whatever is necessary to correct it, whether that means cutting weeds and rank vegetation, hauling off an unsanitary or unsightly condition, or making necessary repairs, and to charge the cost back to the owner as a lien on the property under A.C.A. Section 14-54-903. Structures declared unfit for human habitation or unsafe follow a parallel seven-day clock under Section 5.09.18.C: the occupant and owner must vacate within seven days of notice from the Building official, and on the eighth day the city notifies utility providers to cut off service until a rehabilitation permit is obtained.

Condemnation proceedings instead follow the separate procedure set out in Section 7 of Article I. Because the calculation method is written into the code itself rather than left to staff discretion, a resident who receives a notice can determine the exact abatement deadline without contacting City Hall.
