Aiken County gives its largest trees, oaks, pines and magnolias over 24 inches in diameter, a higher protection tier than ordinary 'significant' trees: a Grand Tree in a protected setback or buffer area cannot be removed unless the planning and development director finds absolutely no alternative exists.
