Alachua County allows rooftop photovoltaic solar systems on conforming and legally nonconforming buildings in every unincorporated zoning district. Panels on flat roofs cannot rise more than five feet above the roof surface, and systems on pitched roofs must stay within the roof line. A building permit is required before installation.
