Alamance County doesn't set a general retaining-wall height limit, but any retaining wall placing fill inside a regulated floodway or non-encroachment area must meet the ordinance's no-rise engineering standard, either through a hydraulic analysis or a FEMA map revision, before the county will issue a permit.
