In an adopted Residential Waterfront (R-W) Local Option Zoning District in the Kenai Peninsula Borough outside the cities, KPB 21.44.175(D)(6) lists accessory dwellings among the accessory structures allowed alongside a single-family home or duplex. The borough has no zoning-wide ADU rule; the allowance applies only within a formed R-W LOZD.

6.Accessory structures. Accessory structures commonly associated with residential dwellings, i.e. garages, storage sheds, greenhouses, wind turbines, workshops, and accessory dwellings are allowed within the district.

In an adopted Single-Family Residential (R-1) Local Option Zoning District, KPB 21.44.160(C)(6) allows garages, barns, storage sheds, greenhouses, wind turbines, workshops and one noncommercial guesthouse per parcel as accessory structures, and KPB 21.44.160(C)(1) requires them to meet the same 30-foot front, 20-foot rear, 15-foot side and 50-foot shore setbacks as the main dwelling.
